Oxy Arts: Mutual Aid Praxis with Ground Game LA

This workshop will cover the history, foundations, and principles of mutual aid, and offer hands on tools for creating and connecting with mutual aid networks. During the workshop, there will be opportunities to connect with local organizers doing work on campus, in Los Angeles, and beyond.

Ground Game LA is a horizontally-managed, grassroots group, building community & electoral power in Los Angeles. Ground Game members are volunteers, staffers, and impacted community members across a broad range of neighborhoods, organizations, and campaigns.

Wendy Barranco is a community organizer, facilitator, trainer, and independent consultant. She is Indigenous, originally to Mesoamerica (popularly known as Mexico) and migrated to LA with her mother when she was 4. At 17 she fell victim to the US military’s targeting of poor people and communities of color and was enlisted into the Army as a combat medic. Upon returning from occupying Iraq in 2006, she became radicalized through personal reflection and learning from the lives and experiences of communities at home and abroad. Since then, Wendy has organized with Ground Game LA, Mutual Aid Network LA and About Face: Veterans Against the War and collaborated on campaigns including #Landback and #JusticeforVanessaGuillen and #AbolishBorders.
